Garden Prep & the Homestead Fair

Hello everyone! I hope your week is going well. We’ve had beautiful weather here and so far, things are going good.

My dad has created us a bed to grow potatoes and sweet potatoes next year. He blocked it off with concrete blocks that are eight inches high. He then filled it in with mulch. That was the closest thing to wood chips he could get. We will top that with our goat and chicken fertilize.

He is now in the process of covering our garden with the mulch. We will use the same fertilize there. We hope this works. I would prefer the wood chips, but it took a lot of persuasion to get him to do any of it. He’s all about doing it like he’s always done it. So I hope it works.

I want to promote an event that will be taking place the Friday and Saturday following Thanksgiving. It’s the annual Homestead Fair held at Homestead Heritage in Waco, TX. This event features handmade crafts such as pottery, weaving, wood working, broom making, etc. They also have seminars on goat care, chicken care, horse shoeing, off grid living, etc. There is lots of great food to eat from BBQ, to Mexican, to Mediterranean. They grow their food organically, so it’s safe to eat if you are health conscious.

They also have soap making seminars, bread making seminars, and the list goes on and on. It’s a huge event. If I remember correctly, there were over five thousand people there last year. It’s pretty amazing!

They have a huge tent where they have live music. They have children’s choirs, youth choirs, and an awesome adult choir. They have a full band and orchestra. It’s some of the best music I’ve ever heard. I’m a musician and singer, so I’m a pretty good judge of good music. Their music is second to none.

If you live near Waco, I highly recommend this fair. We drive eight hours to attend and it’s well worth it. People attend from Idaho, Virginia, and more. That’s just the States I know for sure. It’s one of the best events I’ve ever attended. Last year was our first time to go and we decided then to make it an annual event for us. We went back in April to their Easter music presentation and loved it as well. They also do a Christmas music presentation, but we haven’t been to it yet.

The people at Homestead Heritage are so nice. They treat you like you are their friend even if they don’t know you. We felt so welcomed both times we were there. I can’t recommend this event highly enough. Visit their website for more info; homesteadheritage.com.
